Three races to start off the event

Although August is a time of exciting fiestas in Salou the gentle beaches and climate here have made it a memorable day for all 72 men and 11 women taking part in the Raceboard World Championships.

The day started off late with the first start at 13:00. Three races were sailed with wind dropping throughout the day.

It is Ivan Pastor from Spain leading the men with Portugal’s Joao Rodrigues in second and Nicolas Huguet from France in third. Here is how Nicolas summed up the day:

“Happy with my speed with 2 first races of 2nd and less with my last start "plus jamais ça"!!! Really bad start and score UFD by mistake by RC...I came back 7th by the way, hard to do better on a short race...

10 knots decreasing to 6 knots for 3 races back to back. I thought I was on holiday but Salou is the venue for the Mediterranean games next year! So I have to record wind stats in prévision of the sailing event!”

Over in the women’s fleet Spain’s Blanca Manchon leads before Tuuli Petaja-Siren from Finland and her mother Anto Dominguez.

Racing will resume at 11:00 tomorrow.
